SCHENECTADY, NY — A motor vehicle crash on Eastern Avenue resulted in the death of a passenger and the arrest of the driver on Saturday night.
At approximately 8:52 PM, Schenectady Police responded to multiple 911 calls concerning a serious crash on the 800 block of Eastern Avenue. Officers discovered a vehicle had collided with an unoccupied parked car and was on fire. The Schenectady Fire Department extinguished the fire and provided medical treatment. The passenger, Jacqueline McCole, 47, of Scotia, New York, was found deceased in the vehicle.
Gregory Mitchell, 31, also of Scotia, was identified as the driver. He was taken into custody and transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Mitchell is awaiting arraignment and faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree, and traffic citations.
The investigation involved members of the Schenectady Police Department Traffic Division, Detective Division, and the Schenectady County Crash Reconstruction Team.
