SAYREVILLE, NJ — In a closely contested game, Sayreville narrowly defeated Woodbridge 22-20 on Friday night in Big Central football action.
Sayreville trailed early when Woodbridge’s A.J. Bosch caught a 55-yard pass for a touchdown. However, Sayreville came back with two touchdowns in the second quarter, despite a blocked extra point, taking the lead 13-7 at the half.
The game remained neck-and-neck in the second half. Woodbridge tied it up with another Bosch touchdown, this time a 72-yard run, only for Sayreville to retake the lead with a 56-yard touchdown pass.
Sayreville further extended their lead with a 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, making the score 22-13. Woodbridge attempted a late comeback, but fell short, settling for a final score of 20-22.
With this win, Sayreville improves to a 7-2 record, while Woodbridge moves to 6-3. Both teams remain competitive as they look ahead to the postseason.
