BROOKLYN, NY – A Maryland resident has been indicted on charges of murder and attempted murder for allegedly shooting a young woman and injuring her boyfriend over a parking dispute. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office identified the accused as Quincy James Davis, 58, of Gwynn Oak, Maryland.
District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said that the incident occurred on September 9, 2023, around 12:00 p.m., in a Home Depot parking lot at 230 Nostrand Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Davis reportedly had a verbal altercation with a 35-year-old man over a parking space. After parking his vehicle, the man went into the Home Depot store. Davis also entered the store briefly before leaving.
The 35-year-old man returned to his car where his girlfriend, Imani Sharpless, 26, was waiting. The couple drove around the corner to Willoughby Avenue and Sandford Street. Davis allegedly approached the car and opened fire. The man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and a graze wound to his back. Sharpless was shot in the head and later died from her injuries at Kings County Hospital on September 14, 2023.
Davis was arraigned before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Vincent Del Giudice. He faces charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was ordered to be held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on January 19, 2024. If convicted of the top count, Davis could face 25 years to life in prison.
The District Attorney said, “Imani Sharpless was a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. She died senselessly, leaving her family and friends heartbroken. We will now seek to bring the defendant to justice.”
