Virginia Beach, VA — The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) has released an update on a shooting incident that occurred on October 7, 2023, at the intersection of Indian River Road and Lynnhaven Parkway.

According to the department, officers responded to the scene at 9:14 P.M. and found a victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Immediate lifesaving efforts were administered, and the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

A passenger in the vehicle, Kristin Barber, 34, of Virginia Beach, was initially arrested and charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Child Neglect. On October 14, Barber faced additional charges of Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Shooting in a Vehicle.

The department stated that the victim remains in critical condition but is now stable. As this situation continues to develop, the VBPD has not released further details at this time.

The case is ongoing, and it remains unclear whether additional charges or arrests will be made. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this serious incident.
