Two Virginia Beach Police officers, Sergeant Roys and MPO Abrecht, have been recognized for their heroism after a swift response to a vehicular accident led to a young girl’s life being saved. The officers were presented with the department’s Life Saving Medal for their commendable actions.
On April 28, 2020, Sgt Roys and MPO Abrecht arrived at a crash scene in Virginia Beach to find a juvenile female trapped under a vehicle. The young victim was unconscious, unresponsive, and bleeding profusely, with the weight of the car pressing against her chest. Immediate concerns arose about her ability to breathe.
“With the assistance of several civilian bystanders, the officers were able to facilitate the lifting of the vehicle enough to successfully pull the victim out from underneath,” stated a recent post on the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Facebook page.
Once they managed to free the victim, Sgt Roys and MPO Abrecht proceeded to deliver medical treatment on the scene, stabilizing her condition until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived.
According to the police department, the officers’ “quick thinking and calm demeanors” played a vital role in managing a chaotic situation and providing life-saving aid. Thanks to their decisive actions, the young girl survived her critical injuries, marking another instance where the quick response and bravery of law enforcement have made a crucial difference in the community.
