NEWARK, DE – A Newark man has been arrested and charged with Attempted Burglary First Degree and Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony after an incident on Haines Street. Newark Police responded to a report of an attempted burglary at a residence in the 200-block of Haines Street on October 13, 2023, at around 10:34 p.m. When officers arrived, the suspect had already left the area.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the suspect had entered the rear porch of the occupied residence. Once there, he placed a mask over his face and began attempting to enter through the back door. The suspect fled before successfully gaining entry. Fortunately, no damage was done, and no property was taken during the incident.
Following a suspect description given by the resident and footage from area cameras, members of the Newark Police Street Crimes Unit located a man matching the description on East Chestnut Hill Road. He was identified as 42-year-old Andre Johnson of Newark. Johnson was arrested without any incidents and was taken to Newark Police headquarters for processing.

After appearing before Justice of the Peace Court #11 via video, Johnson was ordered to be held in default of $13,000 secured bail. He has since been turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
