A recently retired Eastern Shore man, who chose the nickname “Governor,” has hit the fourth $50,000 top prize in the Bonus Cash Doubler scratch-off game. The 69-year-old Salisbury area resident regularly enjoys a variety of Lottery games, including scratch-offs and Keno, on his weekly visits to his local convenience store.

The fortunate event unfolded when “Governor” and his wife stopped by Smith’s Market in Showell to pick up snacks and juice. Alongside his groceries, he decided to try his luck once again with some Lottery tickets. “Governor” scratched off the tickets before leaving the store, finding the first two to be non-winners. However, his luck changed dramatically with the third ticket, a $5 Bonus Cash Doubler, which revealed a whopping $50,000 prize.

Upon discovering the win, “Governor” recalled feeling a “state of shock and disbelief” that left him shaking. “What? Is this real?” he shouted, according to statements given to Lottery officials. When he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters, he was still overwhelmed. “It’s not every day that you win big like this,” he remarked.

Asked about his plans for the winnings, “Governor” said he aims to spoil himself, stating he “can’t take the money with him.” He also plans to do something special for his wife, sharing the windfall with his family.

As for Smith’s Market, the convenience store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling the top-prize winning ticket. Located at 11740 Old Worcester Highway in Showell, the store joins a list of lucky retailers that have helped create Lottery winners.
