A retired transit worker from Bowie, Prince George’s County, recently secured a $50,000 Powerball third-tier prize using the same set of numbers he’s been playing since 2010. The win occurred in the Powerball drawing held on September 16. The dedicated player has multiple cards with rotating number patterns that he uses for each drawing, proving that persistence can sometimes pay off.

“I happened to pick out the right card,” said the winner, smiling as he recalled the moment. The numbers drawn on that fateful evening were 8, 11, 19, 24, and 46, with a Powerball number of 5. Though he missed out on the $596 million jackpot by having 38 instead of 46, he was elated with his $50,000 prize.

Interestingly, the 80-year-old initially misjudged his winnings. “When I went on the Lottery mobile app, it said I had four numbers instead of three. I was happy to be wrong,” he shared. As for plans on how to spend his windfall, the Bowie man remains undecided.

This isn’t the winner’s first foray into the Maryland Lottery; he’s been a regular player since the Pick 3 game was introduced in 1976. “I hit it back in 1976, and I have been hooked ever since,” he noted, highlighting his long-term engagement with lottery games.

The winning ticket was purchased from Wegmans #40, located at 9001 McHugh Drive in Lanham, adding another success story to Maryland’s Powerball history.
