Maximum Sentence for Sex Offender in Middletown Domestic Violence Case

MIDDLETOWN, NY – On Tuesday, Gregory Gonzalez, a 56-year-old resident of Newburgh, was sentenced to the maximum allowable 2-4 years in prison by the Orange County Court.

The sentence follows Gonzalez’s previous guilty plea to Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, stemming from a domestic violence incident that occurred on April 29.

Members of the City of Middletown Police Department, responding to calls of an individual screaming for help in an alleyway, discovered a victim exhibiting facial bruising and swelling. The victim identified Gonzalez, a former intimate partner, as the assailant. Gonzalez, found nearby wearing a ski mask, was taken into custody after refusing to comply with police directives.

An active order of protection, favoring the victim and prohibiting Gonzalez from committing any offenses against them, was in place at the time of the assault. Gonzalez admitted to violating this order during plea proceedings, acknowledging he was aware of its existence and stipulations.

District Attorney David M. Hoovler expressed gratitude towards the City of Middletown Police Department for their investigative efforts and arrest of Gonzalez.
