UTICA, NY – On Friday, an employee was threatened with a knife following an escalating argument, at Price Chopper on 1917 Genesee St.
The Utica Police Department reports that at approximately 3:15 PM, officers were dispatched to the scene after an altercation between the employee and an unknown male turned violent.
The employee, who managed to escape unharmed, informed officers that the argument began when the male approached him outside the store. The disagreement spiraled out of control when the suspect, now identified as 33-year-old James Jackson of Utica, brandished a knife and chased the employee. The latter was able to flee into the store and alert the police.
Officers, upon receiving a description of the suspect, initiated a search in the vicinity. Jackson was located on Emerson Ave, where he was stopped and subsequently became argumentative with the responding officer. He was handcuffed and found to be in possession of a knife, which was secured by the officers.
Following a show-up identification procedure, the victim positively identified Jackson as the assailant. Jackson was transported to the Utica Police Department and has been charged with Menacing in the second degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, due to a previous conviction.
