FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A domestic disturbance escalated to a police-involved shooting on Monday, around 3:00 p.m., in the 2200 block of Southwest 28th Way, Fort Lauderdale.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance between family members at the location. The suspect, identified as Joseph Criscione, barricaded himself inside the residence with a firearm.

Upon officers’ arrival, Criscione, positioned on the second floor, opened a window and began firing at them. An FLPD officer returned fire but did not strike the suspect. The FLPD’s SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators, along with additional tactical resources from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Davie Police Department, and the FBI, were deployed to the scene.

After several hours and failed communication attempts, Criscione tried to exit the residence discreetly around 7:50 p.m. SWAT Operators, using night vision goggles, observed and apprehended him without further incident.

During the initial disturbance, a woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Broward Health Medical Center. She has since been released. Criscione, unharmed during the incident, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, felony battery on a person 65 or older, and resisting arrest without violence.
