WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Northeast D.C. teen is in custody for carjacking a rideshare vehicle after a disagreement with the driver about allowing a dog in the car.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning around 7:03 a.m. when the driver picked up the accused on the 300 block of Eastern Avenue. The man tried to bring his dog into the car, prompting the driver to inform him that dogs were not permitted. The man then threatened to use mace on the driver. In the ensuing struggle, the driver was assaulted forcibly removed from her vehicle, and her phone was stolen. The man then drove away in the stolen vehicle.
Authorities have identified the accused as 19-year-old Dax Franco Willis. He has been arrested and charged with Unarmed Carjacking and Robbery.
