One Arrested After Pulling Gun During Argument in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – A man was arrested by the Atlantic City Police Department after being reported wielding a handgun during an argument.

Late on October 6, at approximately 11:10 PM, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Tennessee and Caspian Avenues. The response was initiated by a 911 call where the caller described witnessing two men in a heated argument, during which one of the men brandished a gun.

Officer Dion Liu, shortly after arriving on the scene, identified a man fitting the description offered by the 911 caller on the 1400 block of Sewell Avenue. With assistance from K9 Officer Jesse Oliver-Logan, the man, later identified as Lavawn Harris, 38, of Atlantic City, was detained. Upon inspection, Harris was found carrying a handgun, twenty bags of heroin, and more of the drug concealed in his fanny pack.

Harris now faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, being a certain person not allowed to possess a weapon, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), intent to distribute CDS, intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, and possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense.

Following his arrest, Harris was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
