WASHINGTON, D.C. – An individual from Florida has been taken into custody on a mixture of felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from his participation in the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. His involvement, along with that of others, hindered the joint session of U.S. Congress which was assembled to verify the electoral votes for the 2020 presidential election.
John Anthony Schubert III, a 47-year-old resident of Bradenton, Florida, faces multiple charges detailed in a criminal complaint in the District of Columbia. These include felony counts of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding particular officers. Beyond these felonies, Schubert faces additional misdemeanor charges. Among these are unauthorized entrance into a restricted building or grounds, unruly behavior within such areas, and committing acts of physical violence within the Capitol or its grounds.
Today, authorities detained Schubert in Bradenton. His preliminary court appearance is set for the Middle District of Florida.
Court records indicate that Schubert actively breached police barriers on January 6, 2021, at about 12:53 p.m. near the Peace Circle situated at Pennsylvania Avenue NW and First Street NW. Not only did Schubert bypass these barriers, but he also seemed to motivate other rioters to follow suit. Moving from the Peace Circle, Schubert confronted law enforcement officers in the vicinity of the inauguration stage. During this confrontation, Schubert physically engaged the officers, even attempting to strike one of them.
Evidence shows that Schubert unlawfully accessed the Capitol building around 2:21 p.m., using a broken window close to the Senate Wing doors as his point of entry. Upon entering, he assisted his parents, Amy and John Schubert, Jr., both of whom have already been sentenced, to enter through the same compromised window.
