NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Iziaha Tisdale, 25, of Hampton, admitted to the charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon in a Newport News court today.
As per court records, on February 7, 2022, calls to 911 reported a male in a silver car firing shots in Newport News. A quarter-hour post the incident, Tisdale was found at the reported shooting location in a matching silver vehicle. Witnesses at the scene identified the vehicle as the one involved in the shooting. However, Tisdale attempted to evade officers on foot and discarded a loaded gun, which was promptly secured by officers.
Earlier, Tisdale faced convictions in Newport News Circuit Court for attempted unlawful wounding and shooting at a vehicle, related to the February episode.
Following his guilty plea for illegal firearm possession, Tisdale’s sentencing is set for March 1, 2024. Though the offense could lead to a 15-year imprisonment at most, federal crime sentences often fall below the upper limit. A federal district court judge will finalize the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and associated legal factors.
