Hempstead Man Arrested for DWI and Illegal Firearm on Southern State Parkway

HEMPSTEAD, NY – New York State Troopers arrested 25-year-old Deaquan Dunham of Hempstead early Monday morning for Driving While Intoxicated and illegal firearm possession. The arrest came after Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle obstructing a lane on the eastbound Southern State Parkway.

Upon arrival, around 2:00 AM, Troopers found Dunham asleep at the wheel of a 2015 Mercedes Benz, parked in the right entrance lane of Exit 13. Further investigation revealed Dunham to be intoxicated and in possession of an illegal .22 caliber revolver.

Dunham was subsequently arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, an A – Misdemeanor, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, a C – Felony. He was held for arraignment at Nassau County First District Court.

Investigators from the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the Violent Gangs Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET) assisted with the case. Their collective efforts successfully removed a dangerous firearm from the community.
