MUSKOGEE, OK – Nathan Dale Smith, 33, of Pontotoc County, was sentenced to 87 months in prison for Sexual Abuse of a Minor in Indian Country and 24 months for Abusive Sexual Contact in Indian Country, with both sentences to run concurrently.
A federal jury convicted Smith on September 9, 2022, following an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Ada Police Department. During the trial, evidence showed that Smith sexually abused a female minor for two years. Following the disclosure of abuse, Smith sent a text message apologizing to the victim’s mother.
United States Attorney Christopher J. Wilson praised the investigative efforts, stating, “I commend the Ada Police Department and the FBI for their cooperative work in investigating this case. Their efforts allowed Assistant United States Attorneys from our Special Victims Unit to obtain a measure of justice for the victim.”
The offenses took place within the Chickasaw Nation Reservation in Pontotoc County, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearings. Smith will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility for his non-paroleable sentence.
