BOSTON, MA — Joselito Santiago-Matias, 33, of Lowell, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to the April robberies of three banks in Worcester.
Santiago-Matias faces one count of bank robbery and two counts of armed bank robbery. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Worcester at an unspecified date. According to the indictment, he robbed a Santander Bank on April 3, a Berkshire Bank with a dangerous weapon on April 12, and another Santander Bank with a dangerous weapon on April 19.
The bank robbery charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The armed bank robbery charge has a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge.
The indictment was announced by Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division, and Worcester Police Department Interim Chief Paul B. Saucier. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan D. O’Shea is prosecuting the case.
