New Jersey Braces for Rain and Coastal Flooding Through Saturday

If you didn’t enjoy the beautiful weather on Wednesday, you’re going to have to wait until at least Sunday for the next viewing of the sun.

Prolonged rainfall and coastal flooding are expected to impact several New Jersey counties through Saturday, according to weather forecasts and advisories.

The weather forecast indicates a 60% chance of rain today, with possible thunderstorms after 4 pm. Wind speeds are expected to reach 10 to 15 mph from the northeast. Tonight, 100% chance of precipitation is predicted with new rainfall amounts possibly reaching between a half and three-quarters of an inch. Similar conditions are anticipated for Friday, with wind gusts as high as 25 mph.

Furthermore, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 pm this evening to midnight. The advisory predicts up to one foot of inundation in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Counties affected include Middlesex, Western Monmouth, Ocean, Cumberland, Atlantic, Cape May, and Southeastern Burlington. Vulnerable roads in these areas may experience flooding, leading to partial or full closures.

Water levels are also expected to remain elevated into the weekend. Minor or near-minor tidal flooding is possible with the nighttime high tides on Friday and Saturday.

Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly when traveling on roads prone to flooding.
