NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Public Safety Director, Fritz Fragé, is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who stole $11,050 worth of jewelry from Coimbra Jewelers in the Ironbound section of the city on September 18, 2023.
The theft took place at approximately 1:12 p.m. at the jewelry store located on the 50 block of Ferry Street. The suspect, described as a Black male, was caught on camera using a hammer to break the display case and grab several jewelry items. The stolen pieces include a pair of 18kt diamond earrings, a 14kt white gold chain, two silver chains, two watches, a 14kt yellow gold bracelet, and a 14kt diamond ring.
Surveillance footage showed the suspect changing clothes multiple times after the theft. He was initially wearing a black hoodie and a green-colored vest. He was last seen fleeing the scene on the Newark Penn Station Light Rail.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to come forward.
