Unlicensed Driver Arrested for Kearny Hit-and-Run That Two Pedestrians Injured

KEARNY, NJ – The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit has arrested Ivo DaSilva-Oliveira, 24, of Elizabeth, in connection with a hit-and-run incident that occurred in Kearny on February 19, 2023, injuring two female pedestrians.

DaSilva-Oliveira is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, two counts of Endangering an Injured Person, and Causing Injury as an Unlicensed Driver.

He was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and has been released pending his first court appearance, tentatively scheduled for September 29.

The incident took place shortly after 6 p.m., when Kearny Police received a report that two pedestrians had been struck at the intersection of Belgrove Drive and Wilkinson Terrace. Officers found two female victims, ages 57 and 77, both residents of Kearny. The vehicle involved in the collision had left the scene. Both victims were transported to University Hospital for treatment.
