SILVER SPRING, MD – Detectives have arrested 31-year-old Freddy Obi on multiple charges stemming from two carjacking incidents that took place on March 22, in Burtonsville and Silver Spring.

At 6:13 p.m., officers from the 3rd District responded to the 14900 block of Old Columbia Pike following reports of an attempted armed carjacking. Obi failed to seize the car and was seen departing the scene in a white Ford Fusion, notable for its damaged back bumper.

Minutes later, at 6:21 p.m., officers were called to the 14700 block of Good Hope Road for another carjacking report. Obi, identified as the suspect, was observed exiting a white Ford Fusion, consistent with the vehicle described earlier. He then approached the victim and demanded their car keys. Officers found the Ford Fusion at the scene and confirmed it was registered to Obi.

Obi was apprehended in Laurel at 6:50 p.m. for an unrelated offense. Valuable evidence and the stolen car were located nearby.

On May 21, detectives secured an arrest warrant charging Obi with carjacking, attempted armed carjacking, first-degree assault, and robbery. On September 19, Obi was arrested pursuant to the warrant and is currently held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
