NEW CASTLE, DE – Delaware State Police arrested Devin Butler, a 28-year-old from Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, for carrying a concealed deadly weapon during a traffic stop in the early hours of September 20.
While patrolling New Castle Avenue, the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force noticed an Infiniti sedan with a Pennsylvania license plate that was later found to be fictitious. The vehicle was also exceeding the speed limit. Troopers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of New Castle Avenue and Lambson Lane. Despite repeated commands to halt, Butler abandoned his car and attempted to flee on foot.
During the chase, Butler was observed tossing an object from his hooded jacket, which appeared to be a firearm. Troopers tased him when he attempted to jump a fence. After resisting further, he was finally subdued and taken into custody. A loaded firearm was found near the arrest site.
Butler faces multiple charges including carrying a concealed deadly weapon and hindering prosecution, both felonies, as well as resisting arrest and traffic-related offenses. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $5200 secured bond.
