Mother and Son Arrested Trying to Make Gun Straw Purchase

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department and Virginia State Police arrested a mother and son for illegal firearm purchase, revealing active felony warrants and a convicted felon status.

On September 14, the joint operation between Virginia Beach Police Department’s Third Precinct Crime Suppression Squad and Virginia State Police led to the arrest of Rebecca Maggard, 61, and her son Michael Maggard, 32, both of Virginia Beach.

The arrest came after it was discovered that Rebecca Maggard was attempting to buy a firearm from a local gun store while having active felony warrants. Further investigation showed she was buying the firearm for her son, Michael, who is a convicted felon.

Rebecca Maggard faces charges of Felony Purchasing a Firearm for an Ineligible Person and Making a False Statement on a Criminal History Form. Michael Maggard is charged with Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ineligible Person Solicits to Buy a Firearm.
