Queens Man Arraigned on Murder and Weapon Charges

QUEENS, NY – Shawn Singh, a 23-year-old resident of Schenectady, was arraigned on Tuesday on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, in connection with the shooting death of 31-year-old Treva Sookmangal. The incident occurred in South Richmond Hill on Friday, September 2.

According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, video surveillance showed Singh and Sookmangal arguing around 4 a.m. Singh was seen pointing a gun at multiple individuals.

At approximately 4:17 a.m., Singh allegedly punched Sookmangal and subsequently fired a gun at him, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.

Sookmangal was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Singh was arrested the following day at around 2:30 a.m. in the Bronx. Police recovered a shell casing and one live round near the scene of the shooting.

The case is being investigated by Detective Kerrianne Dolan under the supervision of Sergeant Christopher Esposito. Singh is scheduled to return to court on October 31. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.
