EMMITSBURG, MD – A retired trucker from Pennsylvania, affectionately known as “Pap Paw,” won a life-changing $1,000-a-week-for-life prize in the Maryland Cash4Life game after more than a decade of consistent play.
The 79-year-old has rarely missed a day of play in all the years he’s participated. He had a modest win of $800 in the game six to eight years ago, but his recent win is a significant leap. This marks the eighth second-tier Cash4Life prize won in Maryland since the state added the game in 2016.
The Franklin County resident crossed the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line on September 10 to buy his $4 quick-pick ticket for the September 11 drawing at Silo Hill Sunoco, located at 110 Silo Hill Road. After the drawing, he checked his ticket multiple times before having his son confirm the life-altering prize.
Upon verification at a Frederick retailer, the clerk’s “eyes got really big,” the winner noted. The widower plans to upgrade his outdated flip phone, do some fishing, and save the remaining prize money for the future.
The retailer, Silo Hill Sunoco in Frederick County, will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the winning second-tier Cash4Life ticket.
