BROOKLYN PARK, MD – A Queen Anne’s County man, known for his frequent travels across the Chesapeake Bay, won a $100,000 Maryland Lottery scratch-off prize, dwarfing his previous high win of $5,000.
The 50-year-old, who owns a remodeling business, regularly visits the Sunoco gas station at 5731 Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park. On a recent visit, after witnessing a previous customer purchase four losing tickets, he decided to try his luck. He initially won $200 on his first $30 game scratch-off, but his second ticket revealed the $100,000 top prize.
Upon scanning the ticket, he exclaimed, “My knees buckled. I looked at the guy who sold it to me and said, ‘Come here!'” He showed the message declaring his win to the clerk, and both were in disbelief. A second scan confirmed the six-digit prize.
The winner plans to save his earnings, settle some financial obligations, and may use the windfall for a family vacation that had been postponed.
Brooklyn Park Sunoco will also benefit from the win, earning a $1,000 bonus, which is 1% of the prize, for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off.
