NYC Subway Riders Thrwart Sexual Attack on 4 Train at Union Square Station

MANHATTAN, NY – New York City residents are starting to step up and stop crime on their own after an attack against a woman who was being sexually assaulted by a man on a subway train was thwarted.

A 19-year-old female was sexually abused on a northbound #4 train near 14th Street-Union Square station, according to reports filed within the 13 Precinct officers that responded to the scene.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when an unknown male approached the young woman and forcibly grabbed her legs, pressing his body into hers. Bystanders in the subway car intervened, prompting the individual to flee the scene at the 14th Street-Union Square station.

The suspect is described as a male in his 40s, with black dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a green jacket, blue jeans, and black sneakers. Media depicting the suspect is available through the DCPI.
