Toms River Police Chief Said Ocean Swimmers Violating Emergency Orders Will Be Charged

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Chief Mitchell Little, the Office of Emergency Management Coordinator for the Toms River Police, has declared an emergency in preparation for this weekend’s anticipated storm.

While beaches will remain open and staffed with lifeguards, swimming is prohibited due to dangerous rip currents affecting the area.

Individuals caught in violation of the swimming ban will be charged with a disorderly persons offense under N.J.S.A. App.A:9-49. The emergency declaration aims to ensure the safety of beachgoers while the red flag warning is active.
