TRENTON, NJ – Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie expressed his support for the FBI, stating he would neither abolish nor reform the agency if he were to become President. At the same time, Christie called for a complete overhaul of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Christie commended the FBI for preventing foreign terrorist attacks on U.S. soil for the past 22 years. “It’s the work of the men and women at the FBI, intelligence agencies, and state law enforcement that have made that a reality,” he said.

Acknowledging the recent criticisms levied against the FBI, Christie said, “The FBI does extraordinary work in this country.” He did not support the notion that the agency has become a tool for political retaliation.

On the other hand, Christie criticized the formation and execution of the Department of Homeland Security. “I was in law enforcement at the time. People in DHS don’t want to be there. It was a bad idea, poorly executed, and we need to revamp it,” Christie concluded.

Christie’s statements offer a window into his views on national security, a subject that remains a focal point in political discussions.
