Federal prosecutors have charged Hunter Biden with three counts related to false statements he allegedly made during a 2018 firearm purchase and for possessing a gun while addicted to drugs.
Biden purchased a Colt Cobra revolver at a Delaware gun shop in October 2018. During the purchase, he is accused of lying on federal Form 4473, stating he was neither using nor addicted to any illegal drugs. This came despite his known struggle with crack cocaine addiction at the time.
According to the indictment, “Hunter Biden provided a written statement on Form 4473 certifying he was not an unlawful user of, and addicted to, any stimulant, narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance, when in fact, as he knew, that statement was false and fictitious.”
Lying on an ATF form or possessing a firearm as a drug user is a federal crime. Biden possessed the gun for approximately 11 days in 2018. Prosecutors note that the statute of limitations for some of these offenses will expire in October.
