HILLSBOROUGH TWP., N.J. – Authorities have arrested Ryan Vandermeer, 18, of Falcon Road, Hillsborough, in relation to three incidents of shots fired on September 3 and September 5. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Hillsborough Township Chief of Police Michael McMahon made the announcement.
On September 3, between 10:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., two residences on Robin Road and Brookside Lane were struck by low-caliber bullets. Both homes were occupied but no injuries were reported. Hillsborough Township Police and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene and Investigations Unit responded.
On September 5, at approximately 8:29 p.m., a residence on Gateway Boulevard was hit by a medium-caliber bullet. This residence was also occupied, and no injuries were reported. Local police and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit conducted the investigation.
Vandermeer was identified as a suspect and arrested on September 12 following a search warrant executed at his Hillsborough residence, where multiple firearms and ammunition were seized. He is charged with three counts of 1st degree Attempted Murder, two counts of 2nd degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, two counts of 2nd degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and three counts of 3rd degree Endangering Another Person. Vandermeer is in Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
