PATERSON, NJ – Following a May 22 shooting on West Broadway, Tommy Norberto, 20, and Jazyre K. Kearney, 21, have been charged with attempted murder and weapons possession.
On the day of the incident, police arrived to find a 37-year-old woman from Paterson with a leg injury caused by gunfire. She was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment.
A 35-year-old East Orange man with a hand-wound from the shooting later appeared at the same hospital.
Norberto was detained on May 26, a detail that remained confidential until Kearney was arrested on July 20. Kearney provided a false identity at the time of his arrest and was carrying a weapon, resulting in further charges of hindering apprehension.
He was sentenced to a mandatory one year sentence in 2021, but was paroled after just six months.
This was reported in a joint statement from Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi.
As a previously convicted felon, Norberto also faces charges for illegal firearm possession. He was out on parole since December. Both men are being held at Bergen County Jail as they await court proceedings.
