Lawmaker Demands More Action to Safeguard Veterans at State Run Homes

TRENTON, NJ – Assemblywoman Aura Dunn is urging legislative leaders to advance a bill necessitating improvements at state-run veterans homes in Menlo Park and Paramus. The call to action comes on the heels of a U.S. Department of Justice report released Thursday that revealed subpar infection control and medical care at the facilities.

Dunn stated that the DOJ’s findings should motivate the Legislature to enact laws safeguarding veterans residing in these homes. The proposed bill, known as A4923, would mandate the conversion of portions of the Paramus and Menlo Park facilities into single-occupancy rooms and require upgrades to their ventilation systems to meet infection control standards.

The bill successfully moved through the Assembly Appropriations Committee in March and awaits further legislative action.
