Fatal Four-Car Collision Leaves Woman Dead in Smyrna

SMYRNA, DE – A chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman in Smyrna on Tuesday morning.

At approximately 7:35 a.m., Delaware State Police responded to Wheatleys Pond Road at its intersection with Mount Friendship Road. Initial investigations show that a blue 2016 Ford Fiesta was stationary in the southbound lane of Wheatleys Pond Road, waiting to turn left onto Mount Friendship Road. A tan 2005 Chevrolet Silverado approached from behind and collided with the Fiesta. The impact pushed the Fiesta into the path of a white 2015 Jeep Cherokee, coming from the opposite direction on Wheatleys Pond Road. The Cherokee collided with the Fiesta’s right passenger side, causing it to flip onto its driver’s side. The Cherokee then hit a red 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, which was at a stop sign on Mount Friendship Road.

The Fiesta’s driver, a 25-year-old Smyrna woman, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is withheld pending family notification.

The 31-year-old Clayton woman driving the Jeep received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The 32-year-old Smyrna man driving the Silverado, and the 34-year-old Dover man driving the Camaro, along with his passengers, were unharmed.

Authorities closed the road for about four hours for investigation and cleanup.
