Attorney General Offers Tips to Avoid Student Loan Scams

HARRISBURG, PA – Attorney General Michelle Henry is advising Americans to be cautious as many will resume making student loan payments in October.

The United States Department of Education and federal student loan servicers will never charge a fee for enrolling in any repayment plan.

The Office of Attorney General warns borrowers to be vigilant against potential scams, especially as payments resume.

For questions about student loans, borrowers are advised to contact their loan servicer or the Department of Education directly.

Attorney General Henry encourages borrowers to enroll in legitimate programs like the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program and the federal SAVE Plan. Both programs offer benefits and could reduce monthly payments for those who qualify.
