Today’s weather in New Jersey is expected to reach a high of 82 degrees with clouds making way for mostly sunny conditions later on. Winds will start from the north at around 5 mph and will turn southeast as the day progresses. For tonight, the skies will be partly cloudy with a low temperature of about 73 degrees. Winds from the south at about 5 mph will become calm during the evening.

Wednesday will be sunny with the temperature going up to 84 degrees. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph, turning southeast in the afternoon. The night will be mostly clear with a low of 74 degrees and light south winds at around 5 mph.

A dangerous rip current warning is in effect through this evening.

Over the Labor Day weekend, one person was killed, another is missing, and dozens were rescued due to rip currents. Caution is strongly advised when swimming in these areas.

The areas most affected are Delaware Beaches in Delaware and Eastern Monmouth, Atlantic Coastal Cape May, Coastal Atlantic, and Coastal Ocean in New Jersey. These rip currents are especially hazardous, able to sweep even the strongest swimmers away from the shore into deeper waters.

For safety, swimmers are urged to stay near lifeguards, but most lifeguards have gone home for the summer.

If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float rather than attempting to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shore to escape. If you can’t break free, signal for help by facing the shore and waving.
