LEWES, DE – A 14-year-old male from Wilmington, DE, has been arrested for stealing a Kia last month, according to Delaware State Police.
On August 9, at about 1:47 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the 18000 block of Ash Road in Lewes for a reported vehicle theft. A silver 2012 Kia Rio belonging to a 75-year-old victim from Shoemakersville, PA, was reported stolen from the driveway. The vehicle was later found abandoned on the 100 block of Truitt Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Damage to the vehicle’s ignition indicated forced entry.
Video surveillance showed the suspect with the stolen vehicle. After the images were posted on social media, anonymous tips led to the identification of the 14-year-old suspect. An arrest warrant was issued, and the suspect turned himself in at Troop 2 on August 31.
The juvenile has been charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony), Criminal Mischief Under $1000, and Criminal Trespass 3rd. He was processed and released to a parent.
