MILFORD, DE – A fatal collision occurred on Bay Road in Milford, Delaware, yesterday afternoon, resulting in one death and one hospitalization.
At about 12:22 p.m., a 2019 Freightliner Cement Pump Truck was heading south on Bay Road near Thompsonville Road. Concurrently, an 87-year-old Milford man was driving a Cub Cadet Tractor that was partially in the grass median and partially in the left southbound lane of Bay Road. The tractor unexpectedly moved into the path of the Freightliner and was struck on its right side. Following the collision, the tractor broke in half, and its operator was ejected onto the median. The 87-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 45-year-old man from Clayton, Delaware, was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Bay Road was closed for approximately 4.5 hours for investigation and cleanup. The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the incident.
