Hunterdon County Marks International Overdose Awareness Day With Focus on Recovery and Hope

Hunterdon County, NJ – The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office commemorated International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31 to shed light on the impact of substance use disorder and remember those lost to overdose.

Hunterdon County Chief of Detectives, Timothy Drew, participated in a panel discussion during the Hunterdon & Somerset Counties Overdose Awareness Day at Raritan Valley Community College on August 26. The event’s theme was “If I Can Dream,” centering on messages of recovery and hope for those impacted by substance use. The event was organized by Hunterdon Hope Seekers.

A notable feature of the event was the inclusion of the Black Poster Project’s “Silent Memorials,” an exhibit that travels across New Jersey and New York. The Black Poster Project is an addiction and overdose awareness group that carries nearly 500 posters, each telling the story of an individual who lost their life to addiction.
