PGPD Assists in Pursuit Leading to Arrest, Homes Damaged in Fire
Temple Hills, MD – The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) assisted the Metropolitan Police Department’s Aviation Unit in pursuing a suspect vehicle early on August 27. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a duplex in Temple Hills, sparking a fire and causing significant damage.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., a PGPD patrol officer observed the suspect vehicle at Suitland Parkway and Naylor Road and initiated a pursuit. The SUV crashed through a fence and into a duplex on the 2800 block of Bellbrook Street. The vehicle caught fire, setting the duplex ablaze. PGPD officers evacuated the residents of both homes; no injuries were reported.
One suspect, identified as 21-year-old Imaauddin Hawkins of Washington, DC, was apprehended after fleeing the scene. Hawkins is currently charged with malicious destruction of property and traffic violations. He is being held by the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. Efforts to identify and apprehend the second suspect are ongoing.
The Office of Emergency Management and Red Cross are providing assistance to the residents displaced by the fire. An administrative review of the pursuit is standard procedure and is currently underway.
