HOWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ – A fuel spill was reported on Monday morning at approximately 10:13 am at the Howell Township Department of Public Works building.
Emergency Services discovered about 200 gallons of diesel fuel near the Township fuel pumps upon arrival.
The fuel spill occurred as Riggins Inc. was refilling the diesel fuel pumps. The fuel operator reportedly was not attentive, causing the pumps to overfill and leading to the spill.
Multiple emergency departments, including Howell OEM, Monmouth County Hazmat, Squankum and Southard Fire Departments, were involved in containing the spill.
The spill was successfully limited to the fuel pump area and no injuries have been reported at this time. Howell Township Police Communications initially received the call regarding the incident.
