The Montgomery County Police Department has arrested 38-year-old Samir Haleem Jr. of Germantown and 19-year-old Diego Moreno of Capitol Heights in connection with a series of seven residential burglaries that occurred in August. Both suspects have been charged, and authorities are seeking information from the public.
The burglaries were a combined effort of detectives from the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th Districts Investigative Sections, along with detectives from Gaithersburg Police. Investigators determined that the burglaries were committed by the same suspects, who posed as workers wearing reflective vests. The suspects forcibly entered the homes, stole property, and left the scenes. Three of the seven homes were occupied at the time of the burglaries.
Through the course of the investigation, Haleem Jr. and Moreno were identified as the suspects. Detectives determined that the pair used a red Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck during the first six residential burglaries.
The duo was arrested on Monday, August 21, in a stolen 2018 Honda Accord at the Tanger Outlets in Prince George’s County. A privately manufactured firearm, also known as a “ghost gun,” was discovered during a search of the Honda, which was reported stolen during a residential burglary in Fort Washington, MD.
A search warrant was subsequently obtained and executed at a residence in Prince George’s County. Items of evidentiary value connecting Haleem Jr. and Moreno to the seven residential burglaries were recovered.
The Montgomery County Police Department has released a photo of the suspects and their vehicle and is asking anyone with information or surveillance footage to come forward.
