TRENTON, NJ – A report by Politico outlines a federal grand jury inquiry into the actions of high-level campaign staffers of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.
According to Politico, a 2020 grand jury subpoena has revealed that federal prosecutors are seeking emails and text messages related to two key individuals from New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s 2017 gubernatorial campaign, as well as a notable lobbying and communications firm.
Among those under investigation is Murphy’s former campaign manager, Brendan Gill, who currently serves as an Essex County commissioner and is reportedly considering a run for state Assembly.
The subpoena, covering the period from January 1, 2017, to the February 2020 date of the document, encompasses a significant portion of Murphy’s first gubernatorial campaign as well as the initial half of his first term in office.
A second Murphy campaign aide, Adam Alonso, was also cited in the report.
Gill also served as campaign manager for New Jersey Senator Cory Booker. He currently serves on the Essex County Board of Commissioners.
