NEWARK, N.J. – Jose Minaya, a 27-year-old resident of Paterson, New Jersey, was sentenced to 186 months in prison for his involvement in producing images of child sexual abuse and luring a minor into sexually explicit activities online, as announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.
Minaya had previously admitted guilt before U.S. District Judge Julien X. Neals, facing charges of producing child [censored]ography and online enticement. The sentencing took place today in Newark federal court.
Court documents and testimonies indicate that in July 2019, Minaya used a web application to initiate a sexually explicit conversation with a minor. He then coerced the child into capturing and sending him sexually explicit images. In May 2020, law enforcement apprehended Minaya at his residence.
Subsequent searches of his electronic devices unveiled that he had utilized another app to seduce a different minor into similar explicit actions.
Alongside the prison sentence, Judge Neals mandated that Minaya undergo lifetime supervised release and register as a sex offender.
