LAKEWOOD, NJ — Real Kosher Ice Cream of Brooklyn, NY, has issued an urgent recall of its Soft Serve On The Go cups in multiple flavors. The recall was prompted by the discovery of Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous bacteria, in some products. With a significant population of residents in Ocean County who adhere to kosher diets, the recall has triggered immediate concern.
The contamination of Listeria monocytogenes can lead to severe infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, for pregnant women, Listeria infection can result in miscarriages and stillbirths.
The recall includes the following products packaged in 8 fl oz., clear plastic cups, with all products produced up to August 4, 2023, being recalled:
- Soft Serve on the go Vanilla Chocolate: UPC 0-91404-15129-0

These products were distributed in various states, including New Jersey, and reached consumers through canteens, grocery stores, and convenience stores.
To date, two cases of illness related to this outbreak have been reported in New York and Pennsylvania, leading to hospitalization. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture detected the contamination after testing a sample that tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
Real Kosher Ice Cream has ceased production and distribution of the affected products as both the FDA and the company continue their investigation into the source of the contamination.
Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly urged to discontinue consumption immediately. The product should be disposed of or returned to the store of purchase for a full credit. Questions regarding the recall can be directed to the Soft Serve on the Go team at 845-668-4346 or info@softserveonthego.com, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm EST.
Residents of Ocean County, and those observing a kosher diet, should be vigilant and take immediate action to ensure safety. The local authorities are working diligently to remove the affected products from the shelves and are urging residents to spread the word.
