FREEHOLD, NJ – Mark A. Cocciardi, Jr., 46, of Ocean Township, has been charged with second-degree Theft by Deception, as announced by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago on Wednesday.

The charge stems from an extensive investigation by the MCPO Financial Crimes and Public Corruption Bureau. Through an examination of various business and financial documents, it was discovered that from August 2021 to October 2022, Cocciardi, while serving as a sales manager at a construction supply company in Asbury Park, manipulated sales receipts to process false returns of building materials that had been previously bought by customers. He subsequently credited the returns to his personal credit cards, amassing a total of just under $268,800.

Cocciardi was arrested without any complications and has been served with a summons complaint, awaiting further proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.

The case is currently under the supervision of Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Lawrence Nelsen, Director of the Financial Crimes and Public Corruption Bureau.

Individuals with any information related to this case or similar incidents are asked to get in touch with MCPO Detective Bob Afanasewicz at 800-533-7443.
