A 70-year-old woman from Prince George’s County won the $100,000 top prize in the Maryland Riches scratch-off game. She made the lucky purchase while filling her car with gas at Kentland Shell in Hyattsville.

The Bowie resident, who rarely plays the lottery, bought a $10 Maryland Riches scratch-off ticket last month. She played the game after returning home and discovered she had won $100,000.

“I had to sit down and get myself together,” she said, and only became convinced of her win after scanning the ticket the next day.

She kept the win a secret, even from her husband, until they went to the Lottery Claim Center in Baltimore to claim the prize.

“You know, she didn’t tell me until a few days ago,” her husband shared. “She just said, ‘we have to go to Baltimore to claim a Lottery prize’.”

The winner plans to put the money into her savings. The Kentland Shell, where the ticket was purchased, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

This is the second top-prize claimed in the Maryland Riches game since its launch in March. There are still seven $100,000 top prizes, twenty-two $10,000 prizes, and numerous unclaimed prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
