WESTFIELD, NJ – The Westfield Police Department is warning residents following a recent series of home burglaries and car thefts. On Friday, Police Chief Christopher Battiloro reported two morning burglaries that resulted in the theft of three vehicles.
A home on Tamaques Way was burgled at approximately 6:25 AM, with a 2023 BMW X7 taken. The investigation revealed that the thieves gained entry through an unlocked back door. Concurrently, another burglary took place nearby. Here, a 2023 Land Rover Range Rover and a 2021 BMW X7 were stolen, with the culprits entering through a forced-open side window.
According to Chief Battiloro, the thefts are believed to have occurred just before 6:00 AM. These incidents follow a similar event on Wednesday, July 26, where a 2019 Audi Q7 was stolen from a home on Prospect Street.
Chief Battiloro has highlighted that these burglaries appear to be targeted due to the high-value vehicles in the driveways. He has also asked residents to take precautions by ensuring that doors are locked and alarms are activated. Increased patrol tactics and License Plate Reader technology are currently in use to address this issue.
In light of the thefts, Chief Battiloro and Mayor Brindle plan to meet with Union County Prosecutor William Daniel to discuss this matter.
