NEW YORK CITY, NY – In an update from the New York City Police Department, a woman was arrested and charged in relation to a fatal vehicle collision.
On Thursday, Semone Douglas, a 30-year-old woman from Queens, was taken into custody.
The arrest is connected to an incident that occurred on Tuesday, around 3:21 am on the southbound Van Wyck Expressway. A BMW X6, driven by Douglas, struck two other vehicles before losing control and crashing through a guardrail.
The driver then fled the scene on foot. The collision resulted in the death of a 77-year-old female passenger in one of the struck vehicles, identified as Blanche Olmo of Brooklyn.
Douglas faces charges including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving. The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
